Who We Are

Emergent Minds Lab (EML) is a youth-led initiative founded under the TO Youth Group with a mission to help young people better understand and responsibly navigate the rapidly evolving future shaped by artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and emerging technologies.

Through professionally moderated panels, educational events, and intergenerational dialogue, EML connects students directly with leaders across healthcare, engineering, research, business, and technology. Our goal is to create meaningful spaces where young people can engage with real-world experts, ask critical questions, and develop both the technical awareness and ethical perspective necessary to shape the future responsibly.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower young people with the knowledge, perspective, and critical thinking skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving world. EML creates meaningful spaces where students can engage in honest conversations with professionals, explore the real- world impact of AI and emerging technologies, and make informed decisions about their future education, careers, and leadership roles. We want to help young people make sense of the future of work shaped by artificial intelligence and digital transformation.

We replace confusion with clarity by connecting students with professionals who are actively shaping their fields. Through honest conversations and real-world perspectives, we empower students to make informed decisions about their education, careers, and long- term impact.

Our Vision

We envision a global network of youth-led chapters where students across countries learn directly from the people shaping tomorrow’s industries.

Emergent Minds Lab aims to become a trusted launchpad for future thinkers, a platform where young people develop not only technical awareness, but also the judgment, ethics, and perspective needed to navigate a complex, evolving world. What makes EML unique is that it is fully youth driven. Students are not passive attendees; they organize, moderate, lead discussions, coordinate outreach, and help build initiatives that create measurable impact within their communities.

Over the past year, EML has organized educational and community-focused events at the Turkish House (Turkevi) in New York City in collaboration with nonprofit organizations, educators, researchers, physicians, and community leaders. These events have focused on topics such as artificial intelligence in healthcare, the future of professions, ethics in emerging technologies, and youth leadership in a rapidly changing world.

As EML continues to grow, our vision is to expand beyond educational programming and develop meaningful collaborations with nonprofit and NGO partners that allow youth to contribute directly to humanitarian, social impact, and community rebuilding initiatives. We believe young people should not only discuss the future, but actively help shape a more compassionate, informed, and globally connected one.

How It All Started

It began with us (sophomore Kaan and junior Demir) from the same school talking over a lunch break about professions and college applications. It stemmed from the same need we observed as students ourselves seeking guidance for our program selections during college applications. We realized there was a massive gap between what students were being told about their futures and what was actually happening in the real world. That need for genuine clarity, for real conversations with people doing the work, became the foundation of Emergent Minds Lab.
